Shipping Eggs

There are many debated methods for shipping eggs. It seems that every shipper and buyer has different experiences that make them swear by one method or another. In the end it seems that whatever path you choose, you are still reliant on a string of considerate postal workers to make the whole venture work out.
We’ve received eggs packed in specifically made foam shippers that were cracked and smooshed; we’ve also received eggs that were wrapped in toilet paper and crammed into an old carton that was rattling around in a too big box that were totally fine.
So, after some trial and error and a lot of learning from other shippers with great reviews, we settled on the following method as the one that works the best for us and our duck eggs.

Our Shipping Method

Shredded paper…

…to provide a well padded bottom. A heat pad can be added into this layer upon request. It will be slightly covered with paper to avoid direct contact with eggs.

Bubble wrap…

…draped on top of the cushion of shredded paper.

Bubble wrap envelopes…

…are used to wrap every egg individually.

Bubble wrap inside bubble wrap…

…the bubble wrapped eggs are stacked pointy end down into the previously prepared nest of shredded paper and bubble wrap.

Fold the ends in…

…the extra bubble wrap is folded over the eggs from four sides and taped to create a secure bubble wrapped package. This ensures the eggs don’t move around too much en route.

Tuck more shredded paper…

…in around the edges and the corners. This provides extra cushioning from potential side impact.
